Discussion Is Welcome; Harmful Conduct Is Not

You can discuss public affairs, criticize institutions, share personal updates, disagree, and hold unpopular views on Republic. The Community Guidelines set boundaries against harmful conduct rather than requiring agreement. The rules apply to profiles, posts, replies, reposts, media, links, and other use of Republic. An official account or verification badge does not exempt an account from them.

Protect Other People

Report the original item without reproducing private or illegal material. Use mute and block controls to manage unwanted contact while a report is considered.

  • Do not threaten violence, organize harassment, or attack people with prohibited hateful conduct.
  • Do not disclose personal information, even your own or with permission.
  • Do not exploit children or distribute pornography, nonconsensual intimate material, or prohibited sexual content.
  • Do not encourage suicide or self-harm, facilitate violent extremism, or use graphic cruelty to shock or intimidate.

Protect Accounts and Public Participation

Do not manufacture engagement, flood conversations with spam, misrepresent who you speak for, steal credentials, or bypass restrictions. Deliberate deception about civic participation and dangerous fabricated instructions are prohibited. Respect copyright and other rights, and do not use Republic for fraud, extortion, unlawful transactions, or exploitation. Unofficial accounts must carry the appropriate parody, commentary, or fan designation.

Reports, Consequences, and Appeals

Report a post or account from its menu. Reports are assessed against the rules, not decided by the number of people reporting. Confirmed violations affect account standing and can result in increasingly restrictive penalties. Confirmed personal-information violations and child sexual exploitation result in permanent suspension. Open Account Standing to read a decision and appeal a mistaken finding or penalty. An overturned violation's effect on standing and resulting penalties is corrected; restrictions from other upheld findings can remain.
