Respect Creative Work
Share writing, art, photography, recordings, and other protected material only when you hold the necessary rights, have permission, or have another lawful basis. Attribution is not a substitute for permission. Disagreement with a post is not copyright infringement. Use the Legal & Safety Center's copyright category to identify a specific rights concern, and include exact Republic URLs so the affected material can be located. A sufficiently specific complaint can result in removal or restriction during review.
Send an Infringement Notice
Identify the work you own or are authorized to represent, the allegedly infringing material and its exact location, and a reliable contact method. Include a physical or electronic signature. State that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorized by the rights holder, an agent, or law. State that your information is accurate and, under penalty of perjury where applicable, that you are authorized to act for the relevant rights holder.
A U.S. DMCA notice must include the contact details and statements required by 17 U.S.C. section 512. Required contact and signature information can be necessary to process the notice; do not include unrelated sensitive records. Knowingly false infringement allegations or material misrepresentations can have legal consequences.
Challenge a Mistaken Removal
Use the counter-notice category if you believe material was removed through mistake or misidentification. Identify the removed material and its former location, explain the mistake, and provide your signature and required contact information. A U.S. DMCA counter-notice also requires a statement under penalty of perjury about mistake or misidentification, consent to the jurisdiction prescribed by the statute, and acceptance of service from the complaining party or its agent.
Counter-notice information can be forwarded to the original claimant. Submitting it can have legal consequences, so seek qualified advice if you are unsure of your rights or the required statements. Republic cannot determine ownership simply from a user's assertion.
Review, Restoration, and Other Violations
Relevant accounts may be notified, clarification requested, evidence preserved, and lawful exceptions considered. Where the U.S. DMCA process applies, a qualifying counter-notice can lead to restoration between 10 and 14 business days after receipt unless the claimant provides notice of a relevant court action. Applicable statutory procedures and court notices determine the timeline.
Material can remain unavailable for an independent violation, including prohibited sexual content, child exploitation, or disclosure of personal information, even if the copyright dispute changes. Repeat infringement can result in appropriate account action. Copyright and trademark requirements outside the United States can differ.
Contact and Agent Information
The legal request channel receives operational rights complaints. Republic does not claim a registered DMCA agent or safe-harbor status merely by providing that form. Any designated agent, registration, public contact details, or local representative required for a particular legal process must be supplied by the operators. Request the applicable contact information through the Legal & Safety Center.
