Read the Note on the Original Post

A published Factcheck appears with the post it addresses. It includes a verdict, written explanation, and supporting sources. Open the original post to see the claim and its attached context together. A verdict concerns the claim described in the explanation; it is not a judgment about every statement the author has made or every subject discussed in the post.

Understand the Verdict

The explanation states what is being assessed and why that verdict applies. Unsubstantiated is not the same as proven false, and Context is not a finding that the entire post is wrong.

  • True, shown in green: the assessed claim is supported.
  • False, shown in red: the assessed claim is incorrect.
  • Misleading, shown in yellow: the presentation gives a materially misleading impression.
  • Mixed, shown in purple: the claim contains both accurate and inaccurate elements.
  • Unsubstantiated, shown in orange: the claim is not established by sufficient supporting evidence.
  • Context, shown in blue: additional information helps explain the post without a true-or-false verdict.

Open the Supporting Sources

Select Show sources beside the note to expand its citations, then select a source title to open it. The explanation connects the evidence to the verdict. Sources may include public statements, records, or original reporting. Check that a quotation, date, or event is the one the note describes when you use that information in your own post. Read the current note on Republic rather than relying only on an older screenshot.

Request a Factcheck

Request a Factcheck for a checkable claim, not simply an opinion you oppose. A request does not guarantee publication. Factchecks add information; reports address violations of the Community Guidelines.

  1. Open the post's three-dot menu and choose Request Factcheck.
  2. In What needs checking?, identify the factual statement and explain the concern. Enter between 10 and 1,000 characters.
  3. Select Send request. Republic confirms whether the request was recorded.
  4. Check Notifications for publication of a Factcheck or dismissal of your request.
