Choose the Label That Fits Your Account
Use a label when your account could be mistaken for the person or organization it discusses. The label describes your relationship to the subject; it does not grant an affiliation or authorization.
- Parody account: satire or humor about a subject you do not represent.
- Commentary account: discussion of a person, organization, or group without representing it.
- Fan account: support or information about a subject without representing it.
- None: an account that does not require one of these unofficial-account labels.
Set Your Profile Label
Profile labels are managed in Settings rather than Edit profile. Choose the designation that matches what the account actually does, not the one that sounds most official.
- Open Settings, then Your account.
- Open Account information and select Parody, commentary, and fan account.
- Select the appropriate profile label.
- Return to your profile and make the name, biography, and imagery consistent with that designation.
Keep Your Profile Unambiguous
An unofficial account must not claim to be an official spokesperson, fabricate credentials, or imply an endorsement it does not have. A label cannot correct a biography that falsely claims authorization. Use your description to state the account's purpose and distinguish commentary from statements made on behalf of an organization. Do not hide the designation or copy an official presentation in a way that misleads people.
Report Misleading Representation
Open the account's profile menu and choose Report when it deceptively claims an identity or relationship. Identify the specific false claim and the profile details or public evidence that establish it. Sharing a name or discussing the same subject does not, by itself, establish impersonation. Report the account's presentation without publishing private information about the person operating it.
