Write Your Post

Use the Home composer or select Post to open the larger composer. Enter the point you want to make and include the subject, date, or source needed to understand it. Use @ followed by an account's handle to mention that account. Select the account from the mention suggestions to identify the intended recipient rather than relying on a similar display name.

Work Within the Character Limit

Unverified accounts can publish up to 280 weighted characters; verified accounts can publish up to 560. The counter uses weighted character counting rather than a simple count of typed symbols. Links count as shortened URLs, and some characters have different weights. Use the composer's counter to see whether your post fits. Shorten an over-limit post before publishing; attaching a file does not increase the text allowance.

Add Media or Save a Draft

Select the media icon to choose photos or videos, or drag files into the composer. A post supports up to five attachments, each no larger than 25 MB. Preview the files before posting and remove any attachment you do not want to publish. Use the attachment editing controls for descriptions and other supported details. Drafts are available from the post composer so you can return to an unfinished post.

Reply, Repost, or Quote

Open a post and use Post your reply to respond within its conversation. A repost shares the original without adding your own text; a quote includes the original with a separate comment. Make it clear which words are yours and which belong to the original author. Check attachments, mentions, and linked material before selecting Post. If an upload fails, your text and selected file remain available so you can retry without rewriting the post.
