Mute an Account
Muting is a feed control. Use it when you do not want to see an account's posts without treating its content as a rule violation. To reverse it, use Unmute on the profile or go to Settings, Privacy and safety, Muted accounts and select Unmute beside the account.
- Open the account's profile.
- Open the three-dot profile menu and choose Mute.
- Return to Home or Following; that account's posts are excluded from those feeds.
Block an Account
Blocking is stronger than removing a follow and can make the account unavailable in interactions affected by the block. It does not delete someone else's posts, undo copies already shared, or produce a moderation finding. Use Settings, Privacy and safety, Blocked accounts to review and remove your blocks.
- Open the profile and check its handle so you are acting on the intended account.
- Open the profile menu and select Block.
- Read and confirm the block.
Report a Separate Rule Violation
Use Report if the account has threatened someone, disclosed private information, impersonated another account, or engaged in other prohibited conduct. Report the relevant post or profile and identify what happened. Muting or blocking does not submit a report automatically. Evading a block to continue harassment violates the Community Guidelines.
Choose the Control That Matches Your Goal
Do not publish private details or encourage others to target an account while documenting unwanted contact. Use the reporting tools without redistributing harmful material.
- Unfollow when you no longer want the account in Following.
- Mute when you want its posts excluded from Home and Following.
- Block when you need an account-level boundary.
- Report when you want a specific rule concern reviewed.
